Trade The Beach For A Summer Holiday In The Austrian Alps
When the weather turns warm and the snow is long gone, the mountains in Austria become a lush green playground for active visitors. If you long for a change to the regular beach trip away, swap the seaside for an Austria summer holiday in the Alps.
Schloss Pichlarn Castle & Hotel has an enviable location in the Styrian mountains that is perfect for a getaway during the summer months. From June to September the skies are bright blue and the temperature averages 25 degrees – it’s an ideal combination for total relaxation.
Things To Do In Summer In Austria
Summer holidays in the Austrian Alps are all about hiking, cycling and swimming outdoors. With more than 300 lakes in Austria, you are never far away from a sparkling body of water. The nearest lake to Schloss Pichlarn is Lake Putterersee, just a 5-minute drive away. The water here is relatively warm so swimming, kayaking and SUP boarding are a pleasure to do. With diving platforms and floating decks, you can spend hours messing about on this water.
Drive for around 30 minutes and you can explore the glacial Grundlsee Lake; it is surrounded by pretty forest land and sailing takes place here.
A visit to Gesäuse National Park will expose you to limestone peaks, forests, meadows and hillsides. With foaming rapids and mountain huts as well, the landscape here is breathtaking and diverse. It is great for hikers, climbers and nature lovers – you could return many times and see something new every trip.
In the Styria region, gentler paths can be walked that wander past orchards, vineyards and streams. Each trail that you follow strengthens the soul and boosts the spirit.
To complete your summer holiday in the Austrian Alps, try something daring. The Adventure Park in Gröbming has 18 different courses offering climbing through the tree tops, rope swings and zip-lining for the whole family.
An Austrian Castle With Summer Activities Galore
Schloss Pichlarn has plenty to do on-site. In the summer months, the outdoor pool with its stunning countryside views is the place to be. The terraces surrounding the water are perfect for soaking up the sun, and the extensive lawns are just the place to sit for a while reading your favourite book.
Cycling in the region close to the hotel is a real pleasure. Don’t worry if you can't take your bicycle on your trip, we have e-bikes and regular cycle hire so you won’t miss out on this fun outdoor activity.
A round of golf on our splendid 18-hole course is a pleasant way to spend a summer’s morning – and we have a driving range as well for practicing your swing. And what could be nicer than a game of tennis or a volleyball match on the hotel’s courts?
Events take place throughout the year at the castle, such as Lindenkirtag on August 18th – a festival of good food and drink. And on Sundays, when the weather is fine, a barbecue is arranged by Restaurant 19.
